Can I just say how much I love my new checks? I know, I know, no one likes paying bills but each time I pull out my new girly Betty Boop checks, it makes me so happy. I almost don’t mind paying the phone or the electric bill. I love that I get to express myself and be cute in just about everything I do, including paying my bills.
You can get just about everything printed on your checks nowadays, but I loved the Betty Boop. When my bank offered me a choice of cute checks or boring old plain bank checks, the choice was clear. And they’re personalized! It’s just so incredibly cute and girly. I mean, if we girls can get just about everything else in our favorite color, favorite brand, etc why should we stop there, right? And does it get more cute and girly than Betty Boop?
She was always my favorite cartoon character, with her sexy little dress and baby voice. If you haven’t ever seen her, you should! She was the sex symbol for the 1920s and in a ton of cute cartoons. She’s the perfect character for cute, girly girls like myself (and maybe you, my readers!) to make an impression on anyone we have to pay for all those little things in life.
You know we work so hard to make a good impression on people, why would we want to pull out an ugly, green check book at the grocery store or post office? And there’s all these cute, vintage styes and colors to choose from, so you don’t have the exact same thing as anyone else! When people see my cute style they know I’m a fun loving girl and my checks just continue that impression, right?
I just love her little red dress and little flapper hairdo, even her little cute doggie. I want to tell the whole world how cool, fun and stylish these checks are! Go get some of these awesome checks (ooh, you can get a matching cover, too) and cheer yourself (and everyone else!) up each time you write out a check.
As time goes on, most things go out of style. This is especially true of cartoons and cartoon characters. If you take a look a recent comic books, you will see a dark undercurrent that permeates the characters. people want to see the old icons, like Superman and Batman lose the fight and betray their inner weaknesses. So it’s refreshing to see something that people still enjoy that has somehow kept it’s mostly innocent nature. Even if that nature didn’t seem so “innocent” a half a century ago. Of course, I’m referring to Betty Boop and the old Betty Boop cartoons brought to us courtesy of Max Fleischer.
Betty Boop remains an icon to this day for a couple of good reasons. First of all, she’s cute and sexy without being tawdry. Her sexuality is an expression of who she is and how comfortable she is to be herself. Of course, they had to tone that down a bit for public consumption many years ago – but that was just a sign of those times. These days, we can smile at how Betty Boop used her looks and her outrageous character to get her through just about any adverse situation. Because of this, Betty Boop has served as an inspiration to so many.
I’ve always watched cartoons from the time that I was very small. This was before there was cable television and your choices for TV programming were a bit limited. But there was no shortage of cartoons to watch. Even so, I may have had my favorites, back then, but there is only one cartoon character that I have truly fallen in love with and that’s Betty Boop! I guess the reason for this is that she is more than just a cute cartoon character. She represents a sort of independence that you really didn’t see with female cartoon characters years ago.
Back in the old days, female cartoon characters were mostly depicted as objects to be rescued by males and nothing more. This was the case with Olive Oyl in the old Popeye cartoons. In some ways, Olive’s initial attachment to the “bad guys” almost seemed a bit hateful towards women. But not so with Betty Boop. She pretty much relied on her own charms to create the life that she wanted. This was in keeping with the “flapper” mentality that brought new freedom to women in the 20s and 30s. Icons like Clara Bow were, in part, an inspiration for Betty Boop.
These days, cartoon characters are considered quite fashionable and you can see this reflected in clothing styles around the world. However, for my money, the top cartoon character in the world of fashion has to be Betty Boop. I see Betty Boop just about everywhere that I go – from tshirts to jeans to handbags. I have even seen Betty Boop depicted on personal checks! to me, this is the highest form of flattery. So I decided to go along with this fashion trend and have Betty Boop showing on some of my clothing items, as well. But, of course, I wanted high quality things.
Fortunately, I was in luck since a quick search on the Internet indicated that there was a Betty Boop fashion boutique right in the town where I live. It didn’t take me long to make my way out there in order to see what they had to offer.I was absolutely amazed at the size of that store! They had everything from Betty Boop coffee mugs to designer Betty Boop jeans that even I couldn’t afford – yet. But I think that will soon change once I save up some more money and make another trip to that store!
